Legacy Giving and the 1561 Foundation
Legacies have played, and continue to play, a major part in the history of Merchant Taylors' School. As a charitable institution, bequests to the school are free of Inheritance Tax.
Furthermore, leaving legacies to charitable institutions can now help you reduce the rate of Inheritance Tax you pay overall. For more information about this and examples, please click here.
Including a legacy to Merchant Taylors' School in your will, or adding a Codicil, is a simple matter although we do strongly advise that you take professional legal advice.
If you do choose to remember the school in your will, please do let us know so that we can ensure that all aspects of your plans are fully understood and so that we can thank you appropriately by inviting you to join our 1561 Foundation. This will not represent a binding commitment, and your plans will be treated in the strictest confidence. To do so, you can download a pledge form here.
For the purposes of drafting a will with the school included, the charity details are as follows: Merchant Taylors' School (Charity Number 1063740), Sandy Lodge, Northwood, Middlesex, HA6 2HT.
The 1561 Foundation - Our Legacy Giving Society
Sir Thomas White founded the school in 1561 for 250 boys as more than another exclusive enclave - he welcomed 150 boys who could not otherwise afford an education. His gift and those of the other founders, opened the doors not only to those first boys, but to all who follow. Four hundred and fifty years later, bursaries remain our highest priority.
The 1561 Foundation is a way for us to look both to our history and to our future, tying them together not just philanthropically, but also in our thoughts and deeds.
If you have included or wish to include Merchant Taylors' School in your will, the school would welcome the opportunity to thank you as a member of the 1561 Foundation.
If you would like to discuss your intentions or you would like more information, please don't hesitate to contact the school's Development Director, Nick Latham, by email or telephone on 01923 845 589.
