Varsity Match
The Head Master, First XV, OMTs and several staff attended the 133rd Varsity Rugby Match at Twickenham on Thursday 11th December. The match was a major commemorative event, dedicated to the 55 Blues - 27 Oxford and 28 Cambridge - who fell in the Great War. The universities invited all the schools linked to the 55 Blues to attend the game and lay wreaths at the RFU's War Memorial before kick-off. For Merchant Taylors' in particular, Charlie Bourns, John Raphael and Jock Will were remembered.
The teams took to the field with commemorative poppies emblazoned on their kit. They ran out as the strains of the Last Post died away, through an honour guard representing the fallen Blues, whilst the names of the '55 Fallen' were read out by Eddie Butler and their photographs displayed on the ground's big screens and perimeter signage as the team lined up.
Oxford went on to record a convincing victory.
