Arkwright Scholarships

Merchant Taylors' maintains its outstanding record as the school with the most Arkwright Scholars awarded since the Scholarship programme began in 1991.

The Arkwright Scholarships trust exists to encourage Fifth form students to opt for a career path in engineering. Successful scholars are given funding from a sponsor to help them through their A Level studies. The sponsor and the Arkwright Scholarship trust also provide the scholars with extremely valuable engineering links in order to provide the scholars with the best chance for success in their careers as an engineer.

The application process is very hard and the scholarships are extremely difficult to obtain: applicants are required to fill in an application form highlighting their interests. They then have to sit an engineering aptitude test and if they are successful in that, they are then invited to a formal interview. Interviews are held at top engineering universities and applicants find the whole process informative and rewarding.

There are 417 Scholarships available, meaning that Simaran Kumar, Hugo Parry, Nathan Stephenson, Parin Vaghijani and James Withers did extremely well to obtain one. The awards ceremony this year took place at the Mermaid Theatre in London and it was an occasion enjoyed by all. Our own Mr Coleman was the Master of Ceremonies at this grand event.
