Charity Drive
Charity Drive does several things through out the year in order to raise money. The following are some examples of their fundraising endevours.
Charity Drive FIFA 16 Tournament George Solomou (L6th) writes: In February, Charity Drive ran a FIFA 16 tournament in the Great Hall. It was a very close fought battle, involving students from all year groups. Monday’s final pitted Lower-Sixth-Former Joe Savage against Fourth-Former Shrian Thobani. The nail-biting match ended in a 4-0 victory for Joe. Congratulations to all of our sportsmen! £383.94 was raised for charity. Many thanks to all!
The last week of the Easter Term is Charities Week, a week organised annually by the Charity Drive Committee during which a charity fundraising event is organised each day.
On Monday was the Staff vs Student Basketball Match, which pitted the student team against a formidable team of teachers, including Mr Horan, Mr Greenaway and Mr Flower. It was a close and exciting match, but once more the students were able to secure a victory, with a final score of 73 runs (students) against 57 runs (staff). Well done to all involved.
Tuesday was Mufti Day, and so, as is tradition, Krispy Kremes were available for sale in the Quad during the Quarter. This time around, however, a variety of Krispy Kremes were available, a first for Mufti Day.
Wednesday was the House Bake-Off, where each house was able to nominate three students, each baking a cake in one of three categories - Best Tasting, Most Creative and Most Representative of the school. The Head Master then judged the cakes, choosing a winner and runner-up from each category. Congratulations to the following: Best Tasting: Joshua Winyard (4ths, Spenser), with RunnerUp James Eid. Most Creative: Cameron Iggulden (Divs, Walter), with Runner-Up Luke Johnson Most Representative of the School: Marcus Chaplin (Divs, Andrewes), with Runner-Up Ethan Taberham. After the judging process, slices of the cakes were sold during the Quarter. Many thanks to the Head Master for judging, and congratulations to all bakers.
Finally, Thursday saw the return of the Charities Fair, which proved as popular as ever. This year saw the return of some favourite classic stalls, as well as some new additions, including a Popcorn and Candy Floss Stall. As always, students had the opportunity to sponge members of staff: this year, Mr Horan, Ms Blowes, Mr Mills and Mr Fothergill were up to be sponged. Students also had the chance to test both their aim at the ‘Smash the Crockery’ stall and their football skills by taking on Mr Foot at the ‘Beat the Goalie’ stand. Many thanks to all students for their generous donations throughout the week, and to all teachers who helped to make the week as enjoyable as it was.
