Thirty and Twenty year reunions
Class of 1994 and 2004
When a double reunion, celebrating thirty and twenty years since the Classes of 1994 and 2004 left Merchant Taylors’ School, was first floated about ten months ago, we knew it would be popular. But we could not have predicted how popular it would turn out to be!
Certainly, the fact that so many teachers taught both year groups and the drive and enthusiasm of the organisers from each of the years meant that it was bound to be busy. But in the end 130 OMTs, over half of each of the year group, and 15 SCR attended. Some came from as far away as Sweden, Australia, Aruba, the Netherlands, and Ireland!
It was simply wonderful to witness the joy on the faces of the OMTs who were as excited to see each other as they were to be able to walk on the grass of the Inner Quad. The JCR worked hard to keep energetic tour groups together while they visited the more familiar parts of the school as well as the areas which have seen considerable investment since they were pupils.
Drinks were served in the Inner Quad which was an opportunity to greet everyone, and the Head Master spoke of the bonds which tie OMTs together. This was very much in evidence over at the Clubhouse, to where we walked for the barbecue and drinks courtesy of the OMT Society.
As former Head Master, Jon Gabitass summed it up: “The feeling amongst the 'boys' was so good. I can't remember enjoying a Reunion so much. Thank you, therefore, for the organising, which brought a great deal of pleasure to a great many OMTs.”
