Old Boys’ Reunion Day
On Saturday 27th June the Development and Alumni Relations Office welcomed OMTs back to the School for their year-group reunions. Large numbers of OMTs came back to Sandy Lodge for a day catching up with old friends and reminiscing about their Schooldays.
This inaugural event was for OMTs who left the School in a year ending with a zero or five. The biggest turnout was from the Class of 1990 for their 25-year reunion.
The afternoon event started with a drinks reception in the Undercroft. This immediately threw many of the OMTs in attendance as last time they were at the School this was the site of the boys’ lavatories! The Head Master welcomed all those present before the tours and activities began.
Most guests opted for a tour of the School led by pupils from the current Sixth Form. The Class of 2005 went on a particularly lively circuit of the buildings, insisting on going into every single classroom on the route! For even the most recent leavers – the Class of 2010 – a lot has changed since they left, so as well as reminiscing about their old haunts, they were able to see the recent developments of the campus, most notably the (almost complete) Design Centre.
After the tours, OMTs had the option of watching the cricket matches going on (both School and OMT), relaxing in the bar over a drink, or for those who wanted a real ‘back to School’ experience, a number of masterclasses were put on. Options included tennis, art, music, design and technology, and water sports. It seems that OMTs are still keen to learn – the masterclasses proved to be very popular. Ndinos, leading the Design and Technology masterclass, even ended up with one of his former tutees in front of him!
Following the afternoon activities everyone reconvened at the OMT War Memorial Clubhouse for a barbecue. Even this was a first for many who had yet to visit their new home since the move from Durrants four years ago. The bar remained open all evening and as you can see from the photos, many OMTs were still enjoying their reunion long after dark.
It was great to see so many OMTs back at School, and we hope that future events will be blessed with such great weather and will be as successful as this one.
