OMT Society Annual Dinner 2013

The Royal Automobile Club in Pall Mall proved to be a wonderful choice of venue for this year's OMT Society Annual Dinner on Friday 22nd November. Guests assembled at 7pm for a champagne reception in the ante room above the swimming pool and it was striking to see the number of young faces there were present.

It is heartening to know that the Society appears to be thriving with maximum numbers in attendance including representatives from the Old Wulfrunians and the Old Crosbeians. The formal dinner commenced in the Banqueting Room with grace by Benjamin Weitzmann in Latin.

The dinner itself was fantastic and was followed by a series of speeches. Richard Brooman, the Society Chairman, kicked off with a toast to Church and Queen and he also ably took us through the School song which was sung with great enthusiasm. The toast to the School was proposed by Stephen Rubin QC and the response was by our new Head Master, Simon Everson, who on getting to his feet, admitted that he had come from his headmastership of Tonbridge (the Skinners' Company) which resulted in boos all round. However, the crowd were soon won over with his words and his reception suggested that the Society certainly wish him well for a long and happy tenure at MTS.

It was apt that the Society President, David Thomas, a golfer himself, was able to congratulate David Simpson and his team (who were all present) on winning the Grafton Morrish competition. Out of 200 schools that enter, Merchant Taylors' won this year and the trophy was displayed for all to see.

The dinner concluded with a glass of port and the bar remained open afterwards for the more stoical to round off an extremely enjoyable evening. Thanks to Max Weitzmann for his excellent organisation.
