Early 1970's - Fifty Years and Counting!

Class of 1971-1974, Fifty-years and counting reunion

On one of the few warm and sunny days in June, fifty OMT from the Classes of 1971 - 1975 and guests returned to school, in some cases for the first time in fifty years! The newly appointed JCR were proud to host the OMTs and took them on tours of school before returning for lunch in the OMT Clubhouse with Head Master, Simon Everson, Director of Development, Nick Latham and Archivist, Jonny Taylor.

Many of our guests are in regular touch with friends from school but there's nothing like returning to see old haunts and to appreciate some of the considerable changes since they left. For example, the Music department was brand new in 1976 and many of the buildings to the East of the Great Hall are completely new.

We were honoured that the lunch was so well attended, guests even flew in from the States and Fiji!

These are some of the comments that we have been grateful to receive since the event:

"It was a huge pleasure to meet so many old friends and to see the school. I thought the event was extremely well organised, the timings just right, and the food, wine and service excellent. Congratulations and thanks!"

"Thank you to everyone for such an enjoyable day at MTS. I especially enjoyed the tour around with the young lad Tommy. He showed us all of the places we had memories of and wished to see and all the new buildings and classes. All the children we met were polite and seemed to be really happy doing their work. The DT department was just amazing as it was not even a subject taught in our day. Some of the art work in the Art School looked as though the painters/sculptors would go onto be really well known in the future.

We had a delightful lunch catching up with old school friends in the OMT Building. Very convivial.

After lunch we visited the Sports facilities which were fabulous and of course the incredible Cricket Centre

My word to sum up the School is “Stellar”. Just couldn’t be better. I feel the boys there are getting the very best of education possible in the land.
Well done to all of you"

Firstly, it was great fun to catch up with several former class mates, many of whom I hadn’t seen for 50+ years!  Secondly, it was fascinating to see how the school has moved with the times and added such an array of amazing new facilities. I certainly got the feeling that the school was in a great place and will continue to provide cutting edge education for the next 50 years (and beyond)."

If you would like to host a reunion for your year group at school, please email events, we would be happy to help you.
