Vaughn Stein (OMT, 2003) successful at Toronto International Film Festival
We are delighted that the film’ Yussef Is Complicated’, which was shot at Merchant Taylors' by OMT Vaughn Stein – and starring Fifth Former Rohan Popat and several other current pupils – has won the People’s Choice Award for best short film at the Toronto International Film Festival, “TIFF Kids” section (the biggest children’s film event on the international film festival circuit).
The film tells the story of an Iraqi boy at school in London (Rohan Popat) who gets into a schoolyard fight. Threatened with expulsion for his behaviour, he then reveals in a presentation to the class exactly why he is so complicated. Taylors’ has a proud tradition, both in terms of school Drama and alumni who have gone on to work in film and theatre.
