U15 Regional Cricket Champions
Merchant Taylors’ School are the South & East of England Regional Cricket Champions at U15.
Massive congratulations to the MTS U15 boys who in July became South & East of England cricket champions. They will play the regional champions of the North, West, and Midlands in September to see who will be All-England champions 2015.
It was a superb day in Billericay, Essex at the English Schools’ Cricket Association U15 T20 finals on July 3rd. Four schools had qualified from the South and East: New Hall School, Boreham, Essex; Dulwich; Trinity, Croydon; and Merchant Taylors’.
Trinity was drawn against Dulwich in an all-South-London affair in the first semi-final, which Dulwich won by 5 wickets. MTS faced New Hall School. MTS batted first and started well, being 40 for two off seven overs, but finally posted only 111, which - while quite respectable - left the boys concerned they might be a little shy of runs. However, a truly excellent performance in the field and from our bowlers dismissed New Hall for 100, MTS winning this very tight, well-fought game by just 11 runs.
There was little chance to celebrate, as the final against London Champions Dulwich began almost immediately. Dulwich won the toss and decided to bat first on a dry, deteriorating pitch. They began strongly, with a run-rate of eight an over, posting 107 for six off 13 overs; however, sharp work from our bowlers saw off the tail, with only another 19 on the scoreboard. Nevertheless, Dulwich were defending a very respectable 136 all out (a target run-rate of almost seven an over). An exciting run chase followed and the boys chased down the runs in the 18th over, winning the match by a handsome six wickets - hard luck on Dulwich, who fell just short and huge congratulations to the boys, now crowned the best in the South & East of England.
