MTS 1st XI at Lord's

Merchant Taylors’ School versus Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School

Haberdashers’ 110 off 20 overs
Merchant Taylors’ 113-3 off 11 overs
Merchant Taylors’ won by 7 wickets

On Wednesday 24th June, Merchant Taylors’ beat Haberdashers’ by 7 wickets in a T20 match on the Nursery Ground at Lord’s.

Bowling first, Taylors’ set about their task with intensity, and managed to take some early key wickets. Deven Patel and Uzair Khan bowled aggressively and ensured the Habs batsmen were pegged back. David O’Sullivan was our star pace bowler, bowling with genuine pace and laser-like accuracy to take several Habs’ scalps. Our spinners came into the attack and made life difficult for the Habs batsmen. Aaran Amin was the pick of them, bowling beautifully to end up with figures of 3-17. Habs were eventually dismissed for a below-par 110 thanks to a superb display of bowling and fielding.

Taylors’ started the run chase in worse possible fashion, losing Nikhil Rawal with the scoreboard still showing zero: 0-1! However, the Amin brothers steadied the ship, and some lusty blows by Dylan Amin put us back on track as he dispatched the Habs bowling to all parts of Lord's, including a massive six over the hospitality tents, and, to the delight of the Taylors’ boys, he soon took the game away from Habs completely. Dylan ended his stunning innings on 76, taking his runs off only 37 balls: an incredible, match-winning innings!

It was a wonderful occasion with several hundred spectators made up of current pupils, Old Boys, former teachers, staff, and parents enjoying the cricket in brilliant sunshine. England’s former captain and new Director of Cricket, Andrew Strauss, even dropped by to watch for a while! The MTS supporters greeted the boys like champions, celebrating long and hard what had been an outstanding spectacle; it was a day that the boys who played will always remember: a great day!
