Batting Masterclass with Gordon Greenidge
Four very fortunate pupils were given the opportunity to take part in a batting masterclass with the legendary West Indian batsman Gordon Greenidge. The prolific opening batsman played in an era when the West Indies were the most formidable force in world cricket and Gordon was a significant part of that, scoring over 7,500 Test match runs and 19 centuries throughout his Test career. Over the course of his first class career, Gordon scored a remarkable 37,000 runs, including 92 centuries.
The masterclass was based on what the boys would expect to find on a typical pitch in the Caribbean, which included some very fast and hostile bowling on hard, bouncy pitches. The four players, Matthew, Kailen, Aman and Rafi que were truly tested with one or two earning a couple of bruises for their troubles in what was a testing session. The highlight of the session was when each boy received a thirty-minute one-to-one session with Gordon.
