Business Strategy Competition
Many congratulations to Udi Sharma, who won the Best Team Leader Award in the 2015 National Business Strategies Competition at the NEC in Birmingham. He led an impressive team of Lower Sixth economists: Kieran Patel, Paaras Kantaria, Danny Capper, Rajan Sharma and Tom Lawrence. They had won the London heat back in March and in the Birmingham final faced teams from forty-six other schools from all over the country.
This year, the panel of judges, drawn from media companies such as Sky, BBC, Disney, and Cinescope, challenged the finalists to solve the financial problems facing an imaginary company called Vivami Ltd, mired in a situation of shrinking market share, falling profits, and clearly in urgent need of diversification. In addition to being mentored by an industry specialist, the boys also had the opportunity to visit a careers fair, where they met potential City employers and sharpened their interview skills.
As a reward for making the final, the team was treated to an overnight stay at a 4-star hotel, including a scrumptious three course meal in the evening, when they were able to network with employees from City firms as well as the students from other participating schools.
Udi’s prize for being an exceptionally effective team leader includes a fine trophy and a coveted work placement opportunity with Disney.
