An Evening with Ian Poulter

On Wednesday 26th November 2014, Ian Poulter spoke to a packed Great Hall about his career as a professional golfer and the drive and determination it has taken for him to become the European Ryder Cup team's talisman over the last decade.

The event, coinciding with the launch of his autobiography No Limits, was the latest in our series of author visits in conjunction with Chorleywood Bookshop, and sold out all 600 seats.  Ian Poulter was interviewed and then took questions from the audience of pupils, parents, OMTs and friends of the School.

He began by recounting memories from his childhood - from the tragic death of his cousin, to an unsuccessful trail at Tottenham Hotspur - that gave him the mental strength he would later draw on in his professional golfing career.  Ian told golfing stories, from the first shot he ever hit on a golf course at the age of seven that nearly ended in disaster for the four-ball on the green up ahead, to what it was like to hold the clubhouse lead after the final round of your favourite major championship.

Perhaps inevitably, there were a number of questions about the starring role he has played for the European Ryder Cup team.  His recounting of the famous Saturday afternoon at Medinah in 2012, when he inspired an astonishing fight-back from 10 - 4 down against the Americans, was totally captivating.

Ian Poulter was an engaging and amusing speaker and all those present thoroughly enjoyed the evening.
