Wacky Races

30 drivers represented their Houses in our first ever House Grand Prix - the Wacky Races. Upper Third form drivers made good use of the DT department’s Hitech Greenpower electric car, skilfully negotiating obstacles as they drove fearlessly around the athletics track. Despite the inclement weather, the students clocked stunning lap times. The pit crew, track marshals and timekeepers, led by Mr. Gifford (DT technician) collated results before judging Manor House to be the overall winners with an average time of 48.3 seconds. Manor also recorded the fastest individual lap of the session with one driver whistling round the track in 42.7 seconds at an average speed of 21mph. Thank you to DT ambassadors and scholars Elliot Crocker, Toby KingCline, Dan Jones and Will Bettridge for their help.

Living in a Material World -  Dr Diane Aston Institute of Materials Mining and Minerals

The IOM3 is a major UK engineering institution whose activities encompass the whole materials cycle, from exploration and extraction. It exists to promote and develop all aspects of materials science and engineering, geology, mining and associated technologies.

Dr. Diane Aston organised a range of hands-on materials workshops centreing on the properties of modern/smart materials and their uses. Students and teachers attended the workshops during the day, and parents and visitors the twilight session.

British Bike Restoration

OMT Roger Stephenson, owner of Fullbore Motorcycles and, as it transpires, a company director of the oldest hat makers in London, was a contributor at the Friday night session of Design Week. He gave an inspirational talk about his passion for Classic British motorcycles, nurtured by Dennis Trebble during Geography lessons at MTS in the 1980s. Roger has kindly offered to help MTS pupils with their very own Classic Motorcycle restoration project, a Triumph TR6R 650 twin owned by Mr. Stephenson. Roger answered questions and introduced the audience to his Triumph 650cc Bonneville, painstakingly restored 32 years ago.
