Higher Education Convention

On Wednesday 18th March, 32 guest speakers from Higher Education came to offer our Lower Sixth students an insight into areas for study at university. We were joined by a number of OMTs (current students and faculty members) who generously gave their time to inspire the boys and talk about the realities and opportunities opened up by their subject specialism.

The Convention is an excellent way of broadening the boys’ horizons as to where and what they may go on to study. We would particularly like to thank OMTs who returned to their alma mater: Tom Nelson from Cambridge University (Classics), CERN physicist Dr Vincent Smith from the University of Bristol and current students Tawfiq Hamid (Maths) and James Taylor (Geography) from Oxford University. We were delighted to also welcome speakers from LSE, UCL, Imperial College, the University of Nottingham and Queen’s Belfast among others. Many thanks to all those who contributed to the day and we look forward to mentoring the boys on an individual basis as they start to refi ne their future choices.
