Benefactors’ Day, 8 December 2024
Philanthropy has been at the heart of Merchant Taylors’ School since its founding, and on 8 December 2024 we were delighted to host a special reception in recognition of our principal benefactors who have supported the school so generously this year. Their contributions have been transformational in enhancing the exceptional education we provide at Taylors’ and expanding access to talented pupils, irrespective of their financial background, through our bursary programme.
This year, donations have supported major capital projects such as the world-class Julian Hill Cricket Centre. This state-of-the-art facility not only provides an elite-level indoor cricket venue for our students and the wider community, but its lettings income also supports our bursary programme. The first recipient of a 100% bursary funded by the Cricket Centre is already thriving at the school.
The generosity of our benefactors has also helped enrich a wide range of extracurricular activities, with particular support for clubs and societies, including Rowing Club and the Art Café. Through the Clubs and Societies Fund, pupils are encouraged to apply for grants to fund new equipment or initiatives, with applications written by the pupils themselves. A number of these Clubs were represented by pupils at the event, who were able to speak directly to benefactors about their experiences and how their activities have been enhanced by the support they have received.
During the reception, which took place just before the Carol Service, the Head Master took the opportunity to thank the many volunteers who have dedicated their time to helping create the vibrant, dynamic learning community that makes Taylors’ so special.
Simon Everson expressed his heartfelt thanks to the donors and volunteers, saying, “Your contribution is truly transformational, making a lasting impact and shaping Taylors’ into the diverse and special community it is today. We have achieved so much together, and we are immensely grateful for everything you do for your school.”
