OMT Society Classic Car Club - 1st April 2017
It takes a lot to make me undertake a long journey by road from my home on the coast in Devon. However, a brief paragraph in the OMT News last year caught my eye. Richard Holmes (Class of 1978) and Robert Dicks (Class of 1979) were inviting contact from anybody interested in re-forming the OMT Classic Car Club. My interest was aroused and I fired off an email in response. The article obviously struck a chord and further announcements ensued under the heading OMTCCC Inaugural meeting 1st April 2017.
The meet was scheduled to start just before 11am by the cricket pavilion. Luckily I avoided the M4 closure that weekend, which delayed both organisers, as I had been in Bournemouth the previous evening and arrived via the M3 at 10am. After half an hour, vehicles of every era started arriving.
Following a driver briefing, the classic cars proceeded in convoy up the drive to be greeted by a chequered flag outside the OMT clubhouse. The wonderful weather saw everyone linger to discuss and admire the cars that spanned nearly 90 years of motoring history and seven decades of OMTs.
Lunch was taken, speeches were short and very amusing and even included a song by OMT Society Chairman Richard Brooman! After lunch, guests were given a tour of the new Design Centre by the new Head of Design and Technology, Haydn Hutchings.
After an absence of nearly seventy years, the first event of the resurrected OMTCCC with nearly 50 in attendance, was a resounding success. With nearly 50 attendees, the OMTCCC resurrected after an absence of nearly seventy years, was a resounding success.
