An Evening with Charlene Smith

On 18th and 19th September, Nelson Mandela biographer, journalist, political activist and expert on sexual violence, Charlene Smith, spent two days at Merchant Taylors'. On the evening of the 18th, she addressed an audience and fielded questions on Mandela as well as wider political issues. She gave an interesting insight into the man, his politics and his impact on South Africa and the world. The floor came up with some fascinating and provocative questions which added to the informative and thought provoking evening.  On the morning of the 19th, she facilitated a 2 hour masterclass in conflict journalism to 24 boys, and after lunch she delivered the first Friday afternoon lecture to the Lower 6th this academic year, which focused on dealing with trauma.
